January: The Reality of Recycling

The One Year Sustainability Challenge (abbreviated 1YSC) is a ****personal ****challenge ****in which each month of the calendar year, an individual challenges themself to learn about and try out different sustainable strategies, habits, and lifestyles. The goal of the challenge is not to take on all of these strategies or habits forever, but to help you try them out and continue with those that resonate with you and your lifestyle. It’s also encouraged to share what you’ve learned with your friends and peers - the best way to teach others is to lead by example and to answer questions when asked!
No formal sign-up is required for The One Year Sustainability Challenge - the challenge and its resources are available in full online on this site!
However, ****you can join the 1YSC Community to connect with others participating in the challenge!
The challenge is designed to build on itself month-over-month and with respect to events and weather of each month of the year (at least for the Northern Hemisphere). However, it’s also designed to be adaptable and repeatable year-over-year - so it can be started at any time, and completed in any order. Each topic is addressed more than once throughout the year, and topics are spread out to give some variety.
If you happen to do the challenge out of order - please let me know how it went, and if you have any feedback to make adaptions easier!
I probably just didn’t think of it or know about it! I’m enthusiastic & receptive to suggestions of new topics, tools, or strategies to add to the challenge, so please comment or email to share your suggestions!
