The Rs of Sustainability

You may be familiar with these Three Rs of Sustainability:

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Reduce the amount you buy and consume
Reuse ****things until they need to be replaced
Recycle ****materials at the end of their life so they can be used again for something new

But did you know there’s also:

Rot, Replant, Replenish, Repair, Revive, Restore, Recover

Rot your food scraps through composting
Replant ****local plants and pollinators
Replenish your local economy by shopping locally
Repair - fixing and mending the items you own
Revive , Restore ****and Recover - bring virtually any physical plant, object or space to its original glory

Reconsider, Refuse, Rent, Regift, Resell, Replace

Reconsider and reflect on both impulse and major purchases
Refuse ****freebies or gifts you do not need or want, or even just the straw that comes with your drink
Rent items instead of purchasing them, or borrow items from the local library or someone you know!
Regift items you no longer use but still appreciate and enjoy to others you know will appreciate and enjoy them too - not every gift needs to be brand new!
Resell items directly to others who need them to give them a second life, rather than donating items just to get it out of the way
Replace old, broken, or unsustainable options with ones that are more eco-friendly

Research, Reflect, Respect, Responsibility, Resist, Rest

Research everything to the best of your ability and find your community
Reflect on your role in the world and impact on the planet
Take Responsibility for your actions and making the steps to change
